On historic Mulberry Street in the heart of Little Italy you will find the Mulberry St Bar, used as the location of many great movies including Donnie Brasco, The Pope of Greenwich Village, 9 1/2 Weeks, Godfather III and of course, multiple episodes of the The Sopranos.
If you’re not careful, you’ll probably pass it by. It doesn’t look like much, but inside you can really soak in the genuine Little Italy atmosphere, along with some suds. That’s where Al Pacino first meets Johnny Depp in Donnie Brasco—the scene where Donnie appraises Lefty’s diamond ring as a fake—a Fu-GAY-Zi, as Donnie calls it.
In the scene, Lefty brags about his stellar reputation in the city. As he puts it: “In all the Five Burroughs, I’m known. Forgetaboutit. I’m known all over the f—in world. Anybody ask, anybody, about Lefty from from Mulberry Street.”
